In 1966 Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler recorded a song entitled "Ballad of the Green Berets". Released during the Vietnam War it quickly rose to number one status on the charts. Below are the words to the song. Fighting soldiers from the sky Silver wings upon their chest Trained to live off nature's land Silver wings upon their chest Back at home a young wife waits Put silver wings on my son's chest
The song was wrote by SSG Barry Sadler and Robin Moore. Sadler was recuperating from wounds received in the Vietnam War. Robin Moore, an author, also wrote the book entitled "The Green Berets". More information about the Ballad of the Green Berets can be found on the WikipediA website here.
